There are many doughnut / donut varieties: fried, baked, with holes (ring doughnuts), without holes, doughnut holes, glazed doughnuts, doughnuts topped with sprinkles, dusted doughnuts, filled doughnuts, plain doughnuts… you name it. There are also doughnut twists called yum yums!

We all have our preferences, for instance I do not like doughnuts filled with jam while my girls do not like them filled with custard, on the other hand we all like baked glazed doughnuts with holes and doughnuts dusted with cinnamon sugar.

And what are your favourites?

Doughnuts alongside other treats, such as pancakes, are inseparable part of Fat Tuesday or Fat Thursday celebrations that are just around the corner.

Baked doughnuts can divide generally in two categories, those that are made using special doughnut trays and those that do not require them.

Traditional / fried doughnuts can be piped out of the bag or cut out with a cutter. In addition fried doughnuts can be made both with baking powder or yeast.
